ABOUT

MAKING SPACE FOR WONDER.
My name is Joel Waldrep.
Through design, storytelling, typography, motion, and making, I explore how visual experiences shape the way we notice, feel, and connect. Whether I'm creating a brand, building a world for film, or experimenting with a personal project, I'm drawn to work that invites curiosity and leaves room for wonder.
My creative path hasn't followed a straight line, and I'm grateful for that. Fine art taught me to explore without needing all the answers. Graphic design taught me to shape ideas into visual language. Film taught me how environments, objects, and images can carry emotion and create entire worlds. Each discipline expanded the way I think, but none of them defines my work on its own. Together, they've become a single creative practice.
For more than two decades, I've worked across publishing, print, environmental graphics, production design, and film and television. Those experiences taught me craft, collaboration, and how to bring complex ideas to life. Just as importantly, they showed me that the medium is never the destination. What matters is the experience it creates for another person.
Today, I'm interested in the spaces between disciplines, where design becomes story, story becomes experience, and creativity opens new ways of seeing. I enjoy asking questions as much as finding answers. Experimentation is an essential part of my process because that's where unexpected connections begin to emerge.
I believe creativity is more than problem solving. It is a way of paying attention. It helps us notice what is often overlooked, imagine what doesn't yet exist, and discover meaning in places we might otherwise pass by.
This website is a collection of that ongoing exploration. Some projects were created for clients, some for films, and some simply because I wanted to follow an idea and see where it led. Together, they reflect a practice that continues to evolve.
I'm still exploring. Still learning. Still making space for wonder.
